I’ve always loved the British Empire/British Colonial look! As Britain conquered and obtained land throughout the world, traditional English decor was mixed with influences of the area conquered, such as parts of: Asia, Africa, India and the South Pacific Islands.
The British Empire style has several identifying elements including: carved dark wood furniture, desks and secretaries, rattan and bamboo furniture, palm trees and botanical prints, ceiling fans, exotic animals, trunks, louvered shutters on interior windows, animal skins as rugs or throws, furniture that can fold for travel, old maps, old leather bound books, etc.
I recently purchased this parrot from Michael’s and thought it would fit perfectly into our British Empire den.
It’s easy to transform any area in our home to have a British Empire feel by simply adding the elements mentioned. It’s a worldly look of exotic places and adventure. Cheerio!
