Some of my favorite blogs are those in which I spotlight an artist whom I know. Jim Hall is my spotlight artist today. Jim owns Oak Lane Designs and has been creating things all his life. He has worked with wood, ceramics, stained glass, macrame, photography, computer graphics and more. He claims to have received this creative urge from his mother, who also likes to create an assortment of things through sewing, quilting, painting, and making Santa Clauses. As of late, Jim’s art is more technical based using saws, sanders, stencil cutters, etc. The use of technology plays an important role in his creations. I recently purchased an old world map on barn wood created by Jim. I love the old world look and I love his creations. Enjoy!
Jim’s creations can be purchased at The Fancy Farmer in Baxter Springs, Kansas or you can “like” his Facebook page, Oak Lane Designs, and private message him. You can see Jim’s technical and scientific mind in his creations. Being a science teacher, I appreciate that aspect, immensely.

Stephanie,
Thanks so much for your kind words and compliments. Like I said, this isn’t about money, although that helps pay for my fun, it’s about using my imagination, my skills, and my hands to make something other people appreciate. Without recognition from others (and their buying things I make is recognition and a compliment of sorts), it would not be something I would pursue. I know artists who create art because they like making it happen; but have no desire to sell anything. I guess my ego needs stroked and that is where the recognition plays a part. Even when basic materials (wood, etc) are free, it isn’t possible to make very much money, so I settle for fun and the enjoyment I get from the creative processes. It’s kind of like blogging; getting satisfaction from sharing something you like and recognition for things you do or have done.
Once again, thanks so much for your kind words.
Jim
